Choosing the right handgun for yourself can be challenging with the limitless options and different varieties that are available—but it doesn’t have to be if given the right information.

Whether for recreation or self-defense, if you are looking to purchase your first handgun, this is a great way to build on knowledge learned in our “Introduction to Handgun” courses.

“My First Handgun” class is designed to teach:

1) a review of current, commonly available handguns;

2) the pros and cons of those different types;

3) safeties—manual, integrated, importance, operation, and do you need one?;

4) understanding differences in single stack and double-stack: the pros and cons;

5) revolver specifics: single vs double-action;

6) how weight of the gun affects carrying, handling, and shooting;

7) making recoil work for you;

8) how to choose a handgun that fits YOUR hand and that works for YOU;

9) many other tips and advice!



This class is for those who have attended our Introduction to Handgun class, or for those that are looking to purchase their first firearm, but are overwhelmed by the options.

Materials required:

1) Note-taking material.

2) Bring your own eye and ear protection–electronic shooting muffs are preferred. However, if you do not yet own your own muffs, we can provide a non-electronic model.

Firearms and ammunition are provided.

The live-fire portion of class allows each participant to shoot five rounds through six different firearms. This will help you define what kind of handgun will be best for you!
